Dr. Bilge Mutlu is Director of the Wisconsin Human-Computer Interaction Laboratory. His research is in the areas of human-computer interaction (HCI), human-robot interaction, modeling and recognizing human behavior and activities, and intelligent virtual agents, with a specific focus on designing socially interactive agents and robots for assistive, educational, and therapeutic use.
His work on vision includes developing computer vision techniques that are informed by an understanding of human visual perception and social cognition, applying these techniques to extract and model human social cues, and building interactive applications using robots and agents that process and interpret these cues in real-time.
