MicroElectroMechanical Systems (MEMS), lab on chips and nano-scale science and engineering have attracted much attention in the whole engineering arena and are undergoing rapid development. They give promises to new kinds of sensors and actuators in microsystems and hold great promise in biomedical applications.
Dr. Jiang's research interests include micro/nano sensors and actuators, biological MEMS (BioMEMS) and optical MEMS (or Micro Opto Electro Mechanical Systems - MOEMS), microfluidics, lab on chips, smart materials and micro- and nanostructures, stimuli-responsive polymers, nano-scale surface engineering and solar energy harvesting and storage. It draws expertise from many different fields of physical science, life science, engineering and medicine, including electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science and engineering, chemical engineering, food microbiology & toxicology, and different medical fields such as endoscopy, laparoscopy and ophthalmology.
