Research Interests

Dr. Carroll is interested in structure-function relationships in the living human retina. He uses non-invasive retinal imaging tools to examine photoreceptor structure in a variety of inherited retinal degenerations, with an emphasis on developing imaging metrics to select patients and monitor outcomes in emerging therapeutic trials. In addition, he has begun work on zebrafish OCT imaging and using hand-held OCT to image the pediatric retina as it relates to retinopathy of prematurity. He also has extensive experience with color vision testing. Carroll is interested in establishing collaborations with multiple researchers at UW-Madison.
