Dr. Stepien's research interests include use of novel high-resolution retinal imaging to characterize the earliest retinal changes associated with retinal pathology and to develop an imaging-based approach to monitor therapeutic response.  Since joining the faculty at the Medical College of Wisconsin, Dr. Stepien has demonstrated the ability to apply novel, high-resolution retinal imaging tools to current clinical questions.  As a medical retina specialist, she brings important clinical expertise and has a significant base of patients including those with age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, posterior uveitis, and inherited retinal degenerations.  Dr. Stepien has participated in several therapeutic clinical trials for a variety of retinal pathologies.  She has also used high resolution imaging to characterize cellular retinal findings in a variety of retinal pathologies including those with inherited retinal degenerations.  Dr. Stepien has established close working relationships with Dr. Joseph Carroll, Dr. Alfredo Dubra, and other members of the Advanced Ocular Imaging Program at Medical College of WI.  She has developed efficient and seamless integration of Drs. Carroll and Dubra's research efforts with their clinical priorities.
