Research
Dr. Du’s laboratory investigates ocular metabolism and metabolic reprogramming in retinal degenerative diseases. His lab aims to define the specialized metabolic requirements of different ocular tissues and cell types that support visual function, differentiation, and survival; determine how retinal pigment epithelial and glial cells sustain neuronal health during aging and in age-related macular degeneration and inherited retinal degeneration; and develop innovative technologies, disease models, and nutrition-based therapeutic strategies to prevent vision loss and blindness.
