Education:
BVSc. 2001, University of Bristol, Bristol, UK
PhD 2009, Molecular Genetics, University College London (Institute of Ophthalmology), London, UK

Research Interests:
Professor Mowat studies retinal aging, particularly aging of photoreceptors, and the mechanisms underpinning the susceptibility of the central retina (macula) to age-related disease such as age-related macular degeneration. She studies changes in mitochondrial structure and function in the context of age and disease. Her work involves the use of naturally occurring and transgenic animal models, including companion animals (dogs), with naturally occurring blinding diseases.
