Research
Ms. Gaffney’s research focuses on exploring structure-function relationships between photoreceptors and other retinal neurons using adaptive optics scanning light ophthalmoscopy (AOSLO). She is interested in better understanding how retinal circuitry, retinal structure, and retinal function are impacted by pathologies such as albinism, retinitis pigmentosa, macular dystrophy, and color vision deficiencies. Her research specializes in leveraging and developing AOSLO based functional tests such as psychophysical tests of visual acuity and intensity-based optoretinography.
