Research
Dr. Gogoi investigates the mechanisms of aging and their connection to age-related retinal diseases using a mouse model with a mutation in the transmembrane protein 135 (TMEM135) gene. This model exhibits accelerated retinal aging pathologies such as retinal neuroinflammation, photoreceptor cell degeneration, and vision impairment. Her research focuses to understand the molecular mechanisms of retinal neuroinflammation and its role in age-related retinal diseases. Specifically, she aims to study the role of DHA in aging, investigate the significance of immune cells in the sub-retinal space in age-related retinal pathologies, and identify the pathways involved in retinal neuroinflammation leading to these pathologies. She employs genetic and multi-omics approaches to investigate the pathways affected by TMEM135 deficiency in mice.
