Research
My research focuses on low optical-loss infrared materials, experiments to optically characterize them, and their use in optical devices. I’ve most studied silicon nitride for its application in high intensity applications like waveguides and light sails, but these results are also usable in waveguides and metasurfaces for AR applications where advanced control of light and transparency of the optical substrate is important. For this research, I’ve been focusing on a photothermal interferometry technique for precision measurement of low-loss materials that cannot be characterized with common instruments like FTIR spectrometers.
