Research
My research investigates how cellular signaling and stress-response pathways regulate functional homeostasis in neural and ocular tissues. I have defined key roles for the sigma‑1 receptor as an intracellular modulator of neuronal excitability and neuroprotection in models of neurodegeneration and retinal disease. Building on this foundation, my current work focuses on the trabecular meshwork and aqueous humor outflow, integrating experimental and imaging approaches to understand intraocular pressure regulation in glaucoma. Together, these studies aim to uncover conserved mechanisms of cellular resilience and translate them into therapeutic strategies.
