Research
My research focuses on how metabolism supports the retina and retinal pigment epithelium and how disruptions in these processes contribute to retinal degeneration and vision loss. I am especially interested in nutrient metabolism, metabolic interactions between the retina and RPE, mitochondrial and amino acid metabolism, and their roles in age-related macular degeneration. Using mass spectrometry–based metabolomics, I study how metabolic pathways change in retinal disease and explore ways to target them to preserve retinal function and slow disease progression.
