Research
Shaoqin “Sarah” Gong’s research group focuses on the design, synthesis/fabrication, and characterization of novel biomaterials and nanomedicines. For instance, Dr. Gong’s lab has developed various types of multifunctional drug/agent nanocarriers to treat and diagnose a number of major health concerns including eye diseases. In addition, the Gong Lab has also developed a variety of biomaterials for tissue engineering applications such as photoreceptor replacement therapy. She presently has five grants related to eye diseases including an NIH R24 grant on developing novel gene therapy for LCA and BEST diseases, and a DOD grant on developing novel 3D microstructured photoreceptor and retinal epithelium cells.
