Research
Scholastica’s vision research experiences include working toward a translational approach in identifying early markers for neurodegenerative and microvascular retinal disorder involving chronic inflammation and oxidative stress. Her vision research seeks to identify the role of S100A9’s in diabetic retinopathy (DR) pathogenesis, as it relates to stress responses in activated retinal cellular microglia. She is interested in discovering the mechanistic roles that underlie the expression of S100A9 proteins in the retina using swine models.
