Vishnu works in the intersection of computer vision and machine learning, specifically in developing fair and invariant deep learning algorithms. In relation to vision studies, his work is aimed at eliminating racial or gender biases present in the dataset and enabling pooling across multiple sites and institutions for improved disease identification. For example, his ongoing efforts aim at improving diabetic macular edema (DME) while controlling for racial differences in the Hamilton Eye Institute Macular Edema Dataset (HEI-MED) dataset.
